Overview
A payment gateway is the service that securely passes payment details between a customer, the merchant, and the acquiring bank, and returns an approval or a decline. Integrating one means connecting a product’s checkout, order system, and accounting to that service — including handling webhooks, refunds, retries, and reconciliation.
Why It Matters
The gateway a business chooses affects fees, supported payment methods and currencies, and how many legitimate payments get declined. Products hard-wired to a single provider also tend to find out how expensive that is when pricing changes or a new market needs a local payment method.
How Dotcode Applies It
We build gateway integrations with idempotent requests, webhook handling, and automated reconciliation, so a duplicate callback or a timeout does not turn into a double charge or a missing order.
