What is Product Discovery?

Business Services

Discovery turns an idea into evidence: who the users are, whether the problem is real, and what’s worth building first. It’s the step that keeps teams from shipping features nobody asked for — and spending months finding out the hard way.

Overview

Product discovery is the research phase that happens before building — talking to users, testing assumptions, and checking whether a problem is worth solving before anyone writes code. It answers “should we build this, and for whom,” ahead of “how do we build it.”

Why it matters

Teams that skip discovery build fast and often find out too late that no one needed what they built. A few weeks of interviews and prototypes costs far less than months of development spent on the wrong feature.

How Dotcode applies it

Discovery is the first stage of our MVP process — mapping the target audience and testing the idea with prototypes before development starts.
