Overview
Cloud migration is moving an application, database, or infrastructure off on-premises servers (or off one cloud provider) and onto a platform like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure. It can be a straight lift-and-shift of what already exists, or a rebuild designed around cloud-native services.
Why it matters
Running your own servers means paying for peak capacity you rarely use and owning every hardware failure yourself. Cloud migration replaces that fixed cost with pay-as-you-go infrastructure that scales with real demand — but a migration done without a plan just moves the same problems onto a bigger monthly bill.
